Smile Mongolia with £2500?

Hi,

as I'm travelling through Europe to mongolia next year and am on a student grant, I will be buying 2nd hand and have narrowed it down slightly but was wondering what is best for my budget?

I am 171 pound 6"2 with a 6 years experience ( off road ) and currently have a cheap 1998 kawasaki KLX250... but am looking to get either:

(1) Honda XR400 with 22 litre tank
(2) Kawasaki KLR 250
(3) Yamaha XT660

or ( if I can find one cheap enough ) BMW F650 GS Dakar...
What would be best for £2500?! ( £3000 at a pinch...)

Thanks,
Tom

Question Use the KLX?

Why not use the KLX? You already know the bike. Keep the £2500 for emergencies/extras. Stay off the motorways (see more that way) and you'll be fine.

Use the KLX.
It will do it no troubles.
Just stay out of mud when it rains in Mngla.
The slipperiest and stickiest I have ever encountered, I couldnt even walk on it...

Enjoy, a great part of the world.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
