You are determined to get the BMW. Just do it, no need to justify. Not everyone will agree with you, they don't need to.

Thanks mate gonna do some research on the airheads just starting to read up on them feel like they could be a good compromise between the Himmy an the gsa1150, you guys have made some really valid suggestions an points which is big help.

Like the Himmy an Gsa for different reasons way I sorta see it.

Himmy pro's
simple engine, mpg, good chassis, new, low seat height, setup for off road ish stuff, brand spanker,

cons

speed an power, finish on some of the welds

gsa,

tank range, shaft drive, power, wind protection, carrying capability

cons
mpg, higher state of tech


Did some digging an found tank range info an mpg

looks like the 1150 seems to do about 40mpg with a 30l tank which from what I've read up is about 320 miles.

himmy is about 78mpg from what I've seen on dependant on conditions 15l tank which does about 250 miles to a fill.

Need to research the tank range on the airheads


Exciting stuff that's for sure

Some real world experiences: on one stretch in Argentina where it was a fair trek to the next fuel stop, we managed 270 miles on the standard 1150GS tank, two-up and fully-loaded. If I recall we still had about 4 litres left in there based on what was needed to fill up.

Have a look at fuelly.com for people's real world experiences on the GS and the RE.

No one has logged a Himalayan, but I I'm sure that engine is used in another model that has data listed.

Thanks mate gonna keep reading up on the r80g/s Think I've narrowed it right down to 3 good options now. with the himmy r80 an the 1150's. Dependant on what comes up in budget. Must admit the mpg appeals on the Himmy's. Said to dad the saving in the fuel would mean he could come haha Think whatever I end up choosing he's gonna go with the same an come along. So we can share parts etc.

Well, with our trip to CZ, AT, SK and PL canned due to new cases of COVID-19 (Estonian govt is imposing quarantine on return), we’re heading to Lapland on the TDM. I’ll let you know how it fairs on the ride up toward Nordkapp!

Thanks guys so we have been looking at bikes none stop done a bit of an about turn on the BMW's an Decided we are gonna look at the CB500X 2019 or the Himalayan.

Thought I'd re visit the thread guys, Been doing a lot of spec comparisons reading reviews etc,

One that seems to be really standing out now is the CB500X from Honda ruled the Himalayan out with the lack of hp.

Looks like the cb500x has the same tank range as the 1150 double the mpg same power/ground clearance as the r80g/s but just a bit heavier at 196kg wet.

An there's about 0.6 sec diff only in the acceleration between the 1150 an the 500x.

ktm390adv is quite interesting being so lightweight but Ktm's are bikes I know nothing about at all the 990 looks interesting to from a used point of view.

I think you have your answer.

I haven't owned a KTM. They appear to make with exciting bikes (although, I've read some reports that this little one is not all that great off road: something about not being comfortable when standing on the pegs) unless the KTM were really what I wanted, I'd go for Honda.

In this case, it clearly can do everything you want it to do with minimum fuss.

Unless you find a bike that hands down ticks all your boxes head and is shoulders above the rest, there'll come a point when you just have to take the plunge and make your choice work for you.

I think the Honda will make that process very straightforward.

Indeed mate seems to fit all the boxes for what I'm after this time round.

Gonna look at the 2019 one then I can get some RR spokes if I really fall in love with the bike.

Got time at the moment till my Yamaha RD250C sells. I did have a nosey at f800gs's again had the 2015 which I had to sell at the time for financial reasons. Had a mini look at the earlier shape ones it was a strange engine on that just totally flat feeling I was really shocked when I looked at the 0-60 on the f800 didn't feel that fast. but the cb's fuel economy does appeal something I never really bothered about in the past but now it's pretty important

Just wanna say thanks to everyone that's took the time to advise me an message me 110% decided to get the CB500x for sure from 2019-20.

Thanks again an I'll let you all know how I get on once I find the right bike when my 250c is sold.
