I've just registered on HU and this stuff is sooooo brilliant.
I've been riding motorbikes for 20 years and have travelled around most of western Europe and bits of eastern Europe too. I've always been with a partner /friend or in a group. Due to me now being single ( and have been for a long time) and all of my friends having young children it is getting harder ad harder for me to get people to travel with .
So this year I am going to take myself and my bike on a 2/3 week trip around France. I know I know it's a totally civilised country and really absolutely nothing to ever be worried about. the thing is that I have a huge fear of travelling alone. This was due to a serious sexual assault when I was a young teen . It was less than a mile from my home , in broad daylight in a place I was very comfortable , by a complete stranger and it changed my life.
I am very very aware that it doesn't always work out and I read so much about women travelling , not just by bike, alone , fearlessly around the world . I always am so impressed and I call myself a coward. I'm willing to bet though that a VERY small percentage of these people have ever had this kind of experience. But then I tell myself that if it can happen on your own doorstep when you are taking no risks then surrey it isn't rational to equate solo travel with bad stuff.
I've weighed this up for a long time and Ive decided that it's now or never. So civilised France here I come!
here's Hoping things will work out.
