3AJ Series 1 & 2 Gearing.
3AJ Tenere model: Series 1 viz Series 2 Gearing.
Hi Guys,
I have been looking around, and wonder if anybody can confirm the gearing differences between the Series 1 & 2 models of the 3AJ?
This is what I appear to have found:-
.......... Series 1 : Series 2
Primary Gearing:
1st Gear - 31/12 : 31/12
2nd Gear - 27/17 : 27/17
3rd Gear - 24/20 : 24/20
4th Gear - 21/22 : 21/22
5th Gear - 19/24 : 21/27 ***
Secondary Gearing:
Front Sprocket - 15 : 15
Rear Sprocket. - 40 : 45 ***
Chain Links.... - 104 : 106 ***
If the above is correct, then I assume the Series 2’s 5th gear lessens the “strain” on the gearbox? The rear chain sprocket compensates to deliver similar ‘cruising’ speed performance? And the chain length is altered to allow for the larger rear sprocket?
I have a Series 1 3AJ. So, would I gain the Series 2 “improved reliability” by changing the 5th Gear, Rear Sprocket, and Chain length?
(The only other model differences I can see are the size of the oil cooler and engine paint colour).
Appreciate your confirmation, comments and views. Thanks.
Ciao,
Geoff
