It'll pretty much slot straight in. Clutch arm (on engine) on Tenere and Es are different so will need E clutch cable. Also Tenere choke cable, carb inlet rubbers, depending on which model it is. All engine mounts, casings, carbs and electrics are as far as I know the same.

engine swop
The old kickstart only Teneres, have a shorter shaft out of the gearbox, so here its to much work to get an E engine fitted.
The E engine from 90-94 fits without any problem in the 1VJ and 3AJ models, you just use your old alternator on the engine.
The E engine from 95-04 fits also without any problem int the 1VJ and 3AJ but you need the clutch cable from the E because its on the right side of the bike. And if you maybe strip the E you can use the hole wiring with the E alternator or you have to use your old alternator
regards

Keep the Alternator
Hi, whatever you do, keep the old alternator and wiring. I mounted a 3AJ engine in a 1VJ frame and had to re-wire almost the entire charging system. I made it work but as they say, don´t try this at home.
Had i known, i had definently used the original alternator and wiring.
Regards, Rikard

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
