A better way to secure side panel?
Hi All,
I currently have a 3AJ Tenere, and just like my previous one the rear of the side panel on the right side was not held securely in place, which allows it to melt on the exhaust. On the 3AJ the oil tank lives behind this side panel.
There is a metal lug off the frame and a hole in the side panel towards the back. I assume that there should be some rubber over this metal lug as it is a very loose fit in the side panel. Would replacing this missing rubber hold the side panel securely enough to prevent it moving? Would it prevent the side panel being removed (to check the oil level) without removing the saddle?
Currently I use a strap through a slot that I have cut in the side panel and around the frame. This works well except that to prevent the end of the strap melting on the exhaust, and to position its buckle so as not to get in the way of the saddle, the saddle has to be removed to remove the side panel. When we are travelling I have a canoe bag strapped across the back of the saddle, so that needs un-strapping too!
If the missing rubber part isn’t the solution, does anyone have a method that allows them to check their oil level without removing the saddle?
Thanks
Mark
