Buying an XT in Canada or Alaska? Where to look!

Can anyone recommend any dealers or online web sites selling Yamaha XT600E's, on the West coast of Canada or Alaska?

Rather than shipping one out which is really expensive, I thought I'd look into buying one out there.

Are they common and if they are not, are their other overland bikes that are sold out there in large numbers.

Any advice on web sites selling bikes much appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Iain.

Hi Iain, the cost of shipping was too high? I'm not sure if you will be able to by and register a bike here, being a non resident. XT600's are not nearly as pouplar here as they are in europe yamaha stoped selling them here in the mid 90's, howerer there are alot of klr650's and xr650l's around. here are some links to dualsport clubs that have adds.

WinMac,

Thanks for the info and advice. I think you could be right on the "Registration" front, and I guess this is something I'll have to look into.

The UK we have the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency), a government body that over sees all this type of thing, is there a similar organisation I could contact in Canada?

Cheers,

Iain.

As I put in my reply yesterday each province has their own scheme for licensing of both drivers and vehicles.

Your best bet for complete information would be to go onto the provinces web site and read their rules.

As luck would have it, I live in British Columbia and just purchased an XT600 in Washington state. They are very rare here.

I have to go to motor vehicles tomorrow to check on insurance premiums for a friend who is permanently moving here from England anyway, so I can ask about temporary visitors and registration/onwership rules.

btw, Winmac is right. I do however know of where there are a couple of 1998 DR650s for sale. The 1 owner bought a DRZ400 and doesn't ride his 650 anymore and the other guy has taken to riding his BMW streetbike all the time.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
