Electrics question...
Howdy fellows!
Just a couple of questions, firstly...electrics. Does anyone have any tips on waterproofing the electrics on a 2000 XT600E? I'm getting ready to set out and the trip will eventually involve a number of water crossings, and I like to be prepared.
Secondly, a bit tougher this one. Does anyone know if a 23ltr Acerbis tank from a 2003 XT will fit the 2000 model? I've searched and searched but can find bugger all info about the compatibility between models.
Cheers!

I spray the electrics with WD40 (fine aerosol oil), personally I would not pack the connectors with grease as it may trap water inside, WD40 provides a barrier against corrosion although you will need to do it regularly.
The 23 Ltr Acerbis tank will fit the 1995-2003 XT600.

i wouldnt use wd40 as its too thin and evaporates over time. if you can find it a proper electrical sealer spray is the best bet, failing that i use pro care, its a thin oil like duck oil, acts as a de wateriser and also degreaser and rust penetrater

you can probably score some from any car valeters as they use it by the 5 gallon drum, it will work out a lot cheaper in the long run, just fill a spray bottle with it and liberally coat everything bar the brakes, seat and grips!!
makes paint and plastic shime like new aswell as helping mud to fall off easilly.

I agree - WD40 is fine for initial cleaning, but far too light for extended coverage. Try going to an electrical supply house (where pro electricians purchase supplies) and look for dielectric grease (I believe one brand name is NoOx). [Some automotive parts suppliers might also have some.] Disassemble the plugs, wire brush if dull and accessible, spray with WD40, smear on a goodly amount of dielectric grease, reassemble.

Great, thanks for the tips. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some suitable sealant spray next time I'm out and about.

The product ZAP2504 was talking about is Noalox.
It is a "anti - oxidant joint compound".
It is for use on aluminum wire to prevent oxidation and give good continuity.
It does not provide any protection from water.
