fuel economy and exhausts
could anyone give me advice regarding sports pipes.
does an aftermarket arrow pipe give the bike better or worse fuel economy if the bike is jetted correctly.allot of people have told me i will get worse fuel economy and should stick with the standard pipe for long rtw touring.....thanks ..phil.

Another exhaust will in the best case give you the same fuel economy, but will mostly need expert adjusting of the carb. Another exhaust can give you a little bit of extra power, some in low range, some in high range, very few all over, and mostly it will need carb adjusting. Note that proper carb adjusting can only be done after testing on a bench with expert diagnosis. Disadvantages of the original exhaust are rust and heavy weight. What are your expectations of an exhaust?

im trying to set my bike up for a long rtw trip and fuel economy is my main priority, the weight is a factor...but the cost of a pipe could be well spent on other things,so if a new pipe gives better fuel economy i would certainly stick one on. i was thinking of the arrow pd pipe. does anyone have any experience with this pipe on an xtz660.

I ride a MuZ Skorpion which has a Yamaha XTZ 660 motor in it. I recently installed a more free flowing M4 can on it. My fuel mileage got significantly better- perhaps as much as 20% better. Also the performance of the motor was better thru out the range. These results were without any changes to the stock carbs. If I had bought and installed the M4 can 46,000 miles ago, when I bought the bike, the savings in fuel costs would have paid for it by now. These are the results I saw, yours may be different. One drawback is the bike is very loud now.
