Iridium spark plugs worth it?
Hey there!
I'm thinking of getting some new Iridium spark plugs on ebay for my XT...
The matching DPR8EA-9 is the DPR8EIX-9 and I can get them cheaper on ebay and have them shipped than to actually buy the standard NGK plug at my island!
I did notice that some sellers list the spark plug for the XT600 as being the DPR7EIX-9... maybe a mistake on their behalf??
What are the pros and cons of such spark plugs?

Don't waste your money !!!!!!!
You wont notice any gain on a low compression, low power thumper like the XT...
They are for very high performance race bikes where engine temperatures are very high and squeezing an extra 0.001% of efficiency is worth the extra cash.
But, if you can get them for the same price... why not !!! They should last just as long as regular platinum plugs.

Iridium for Ducati
Hey Dude,
Have had some serious problems with my Ducati in the wet (no surprise there :-) so part of the electrical system had to be dried and greased and at the same time a set of Iridium plugs were fitted. If I notice the difference... well, starting is much easier for one. Second it is less rough when on same speed. Third, when I open the throttle the power comes just that little bit quicker... like tedmagnum said about that "0.001% of efficiency"
The XT you have should probably do fine with normal sparkies but if you like to tinker - go for it.

+1 on that.
If you can get a known brand for the right money with the right numbers that's what you need. Anything else is just a gimmick, and a dangerous gimic with the likes of certain products whose central electrode is prone to dropping out into the cylinder. I won't write anything potentially libelous, but lets say I never saw any issues with a bog standard NGK, Denso or Champion.

I've changed my iridium back to a regular NGK, as the iridum dind't "change color" so i couldn't "read it" (lean og rich mixture)

In my island, there is only one place that sells the sparkplugs for the XT and I've had to wait several times over a week for they to order it and have it in stock..and they sell it for almost 10euros EACH!
I've used some Champion N9YC on my DT125R and never had any problems with it! It even behaved better than the NGK BR9ES
So yeah.. I can even get them from ebay for about the same price.. and since they are even a little better why not get one to try it out?! :P
I will have to use the DPR8EA-9 for a while because of the exhaust valves and new Mikuni BST40... So I can check if I got a good mixture and not run the bike too lean or too rich...
