Is longer chain needed for 2 teeth more on rear?
Hi All,
I am considering lowering the gearing on my wife's XT600E by changing the rear sprocket from 45 to 47 teeth (15 T front)
I have just changed the chain & sprockets from 14t, 45t (and worn out) to 15t, 45t (standard) but prefered the lower gearing. I am thinking that keeping a 15t front will reduce the ware on the chain and that it will be easier to change the rear sprocket than the front. I think that I would have to split the chain to remove the front sprocket and it isn't a split link type. Also this would give slightly higher gearing than 14t, 45t which was very buzzy ay motorway speads.
But as the chain is new and the wheel only adjusted back a couple of notches, would going up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket mean that I would need a longer chain?
Thanks
Mark
