My Xt600
Just wanted to say, here she is, she isnt the prettiest XT in the world, but she is all I have and I love her to bits and although slow would willingly take her on any journey. here she is in the Mountains near Salinas in Spain, about 10 miles from where I live.

note the neat and tidy workshop conditions! actually, i didnt have a workshop then. i was working outside, but yes, i was too messy!

Ugly as hell... But I'd not kick her out of the Garage.


Great rebuild lots of love gone into her, also nice before and after pics puts a lot into context, I really love the Ammo boxes.

Yep lee, a lotta love and skinned knuckles went into her.
I have replaced LOADS of stuff and replaced the swingarm bearings and shock linkages and bushes/ bearings etc are as good as
if not better than factory......... ( i used copaslip grease) and have replaced every bearing that isnt in the engine.
the list of bits is endless, but i wanted a bike that doesnt look too nickable as insurance here in Spain is ONLY 3rd PARTY
on a bike this age.

Mmm Greasing bearing brings back nasty memories of needle bearings getting popped out of place :confused1: Stupid BMW designers.



They should also make screws and small plastic spacers ORANGE or SHOCKING PINK because I keep loosing them

old tip for needle bearings Lee.......
hold em in place with WAX! good old fashioned candle-wax. drip it around the needles till it holds them in place, then let it cool, a lighter or a match will melt any excess very quickly, and then assemble...... then heat up with a hair dryer till hot and then squirt the grease in with the grease gun forcing any wax out. any wax residue left behind wont do any harm anyway.

See (shakes head) I'd have never thought of doing that.
Lucky that I carry a small wax tea candle (ray mears told me to) so next time I have to do a service I will give it a go.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
