New Member, New Bike, Newbie Questions
Hi I just acquired a 1990 Xt600 E on a trade. Vin Number JYA3UYE02LA******
The number on the vin tag says 3UY-21186-01 just from looking at some of the service manuals I believe the exact model is a 1990 xt600 3UY. Am I correct? And is there a parts list and manual available for this exact model?
The bike is in really good condition for its age and runs and drives ok. My only issues are that the tank fairings and left side fairing (battery side cover) is missing. I know parts are hard to come by on these bikes but am looking to upgrade the looks a bit with newer fairings from a newer bike and maybe get an Acerbis tank and am wondering if this model will fit my bike: YAMAHA - XT 600 - 0001599.090 | Acerbis
If not will a tank like this with the newer style fairings fit: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...attach/jpg.gif
I'd like to go for a Supermoto look with two 17" stock rear wheels (if I can find them) or build a new set for street use using warp 9 or excel rims and stock hubs keeping the stock steel rims for more off road dual purpose setup. Any sources out there for stock rear and front hubs?
Another issue I believe I have is with a slight piston slap. It's making a knocking noise at low idle. Is there a way to alleviate this issue besides a new sleeve and piston? I read this thread http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...eck-your-73934 but the video links weren't working for me. I don't speak German or Spanish and can't understand most of the videos on YouTube. There needs to be more online video tutorials for these old bikes. I can understand the service manuals and am pretty mechanically inclined but it would be nice to have more step by step visual tutorials in my opinion. I also don't have a source for the specialty yamaha tools needed for teardown. Anyone know of a source for them?
