Poor fuel solutions!

Hi
Taking my 06 XT660 off on a trip fro UK to NZ; in the latter stages of planning and on top of everything else the problem of poor fuel quality has just raised its head.Ive travelled a lot in India and SE Asia and have seen guys selling fuel from dirty pop bottles at the side of the road and I dont fancy getting caught out trying to run the bike on parafin!!.How does the Xt 660 cope with poor quality fuel, what can I do to deal with it?My Yam dealer was useless, didnt have a clue!Appreciate any advice.

Filter

Install inline fuel filter(s). Remove the shitty little filter on top of the float needle seat.

I've never heard yet of XT's having problems with low quality fuel. In general, everything that looks like petrol is OK. So don't worry about it.

If hey sell you water, diesel or paint remover you will find out soon enough (engine stops). Donate it to some truck and buy good stuff.

Sparky,

There's an earlier thread in here that you might find related, or at least interesting - It's about removing the lambda probe for a trip through Africa; the overall conclusion was that doing this is not a problem.
Same goes for the cat converter from memory - have a look back in this forum, it was not all that long ago.

Cheers,

try this for dirty fuel!

Mr. Funnel

watch the Demo! Fantastic.......that sorts the dirt out.

Then make sure you have a bottle of Octane Booster so low quality fuel doesn't cause too many rough running problems.
STP Power Boost Fuel Additive 250ml from Halfords Price £4.99

and your all set to go!

Toluene is an excellent octane booster .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
