XT600's on GUMTREE!
I often look on Gumtree at the Yamaha XT600's being sold.
I came across two today worth mentioning here -
YAMAHA XT600 TENERE CLASSIC BIKE 1986 GREAT CONDITION in Chester, Cheshire | Motorbikes & Scooters for Sale | Gumtree.com
Yamaha XT600 E BMW XR DRZ Trail Adventure Bike Electric Start Taxed and Tested Prestine Condition in L'derry, County Londonderry | Motorbikes & Scooters for Sale | Gumtree.com
The first one looks interesting although in my opinion it isn't worth anywhere near what is being asked. This price would be fair for a real minter but for one like this I think £1,200 is absolute tops. I realise these models are getting rare and that prices are on the up but £2,000?????
I have seen the same model in true mint condition (and low mileage) being sold for less than £2,000.
As for the other (a mint XT600E), £2,300 is utterly ludicrous! Both my bikes are low mileage minters and in my opinion worth £1,600 tops. I might let my bikes go for a bit less if I could find a really good home (where they get polished more than ridden).
It's now possible to find Yamaha XT660's for just over £2,000 now.
I thought these links might be of interest to those of you out there (in the UK) who are looking for a bike.
Gumtree is an excellent online resource but be aware that some people are being plain GREEDY.
Lastly, it's a buyers market at the moment so play hard ball - don't pay any more than you need to. It's often a good idea to make a fair offer and give the seller your contact details. This tactic has served me well in the past, after walking away I have had a phone call within 5 minutes accepting my offer.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of private sellers asking retail shop prices for their bike! A private bike should be sold for about one third less than a shop sold bike (this represents the shops profit). Also factor in that when buying from a commercial seller you have much better consumer protection (Sales of Goods Act 1979 etc). A private buy is risky but it should be possible to obtain a true BARGAIN here.
I may use this thread to update on new XT's appearing on Gumtree.
