Hi Alex,

great to hear you got the XT back more or less in one piece.
Now you need similar luck with dodging the pound charge!

Good luck with getting it back on the road.

Crusty.

Grr.

The bike doesn't start:-( I've tracked this down to no spark from the spark plug. My current thinking is a CDI failure due to bodgy hotwiring shorting and cooking it.

A change of spark plug also yields no spark. The coil isn't open circuit, which isn't a conclusive test I know. All other electrics work and I've done a check on the connections and they seem ok. Has anyone used any third party CDI manufacturers?

Hi Alex,

I've got a CDI from a 535 Virago in the garage. If you can find out if it's the same as the XT (which would be an amazing coincidence, I know) let me know and you can give it a try.

Good luck,

Crusty.

There was a 3AJ cdi on ebay at the weekend sitting at about 20 quid, might be worth a nosey.

Cheers Pete, I had a bid in there but I ended up being driven up to 50 quid. Still, I'm pretty sure that's a big saving on stealer prices.

Crusty, thanks for the offer - I think I would have tried it in desparation if I hadn't got the ebay deal.

As always, will keep you all posted.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
