Trying out a replacement starter clutch from Ideal Engine Parts for my '94 XTZ 660
Hi!
I own a XTZ 660 as a second bike at my dads which I can use when I visit. Last summer the starter clutch finally gave out after showing increasing signs of wear for a few years. In my ownership the engine has always been run on correct oil type and correct amounts, however it already had 56kkm on the odometer when I bought it, so I can't tell how the previous owner treated it. The starter clutch was already worn when I bought it though.
So since this bike is used seldomly I want to try out a starter clutch kit from Ideal Engine Parts which are sold on Ebay. These are supposedly reinforced and come with a one year warranty.
However, they are made in Taiwan and sold by "Ideal Engine Parts" as a complete assembly for only ~$250, shipping included. Compared to the price for a complete factory Yamaha kit, I could probably buy 3 or 4 of these kits for the same price.
Money isn't actually an issue, I am filthy rich but also really curious so I am going to try this out for SCIENCE!
I have placed an order for this kit + gasket from Wemoto and will update this thread upon installation, test, and long-time use.
Meanwhile I am interested to hear your opinions and predictions. Win or lose, place your bets.
