TTR600 supermoto newbie.

Hello folks, couldn't resist opening up an account here as I've recently purchased a beautiful TTR600 2003 converted into a supermoto. I've already spend long hours reading up on this forum about pretty much every detail I need to know about the bike so thank you for all your kind help.

I'm wondering what parts on the TTR are interchangeable with other models, specifically brake/clutch levers and foot pegs? WR400/TTR250?

Out of curiosity how do you all maintain the chain? Brands/techniques? I've been a dry chain lube guy since starting on bikes but the residue is making cleaning a chore and I've been reading lots of people using WD40 as this cleans and protects the already lubricated seals in the chain, thoughts?

Any recommendations on an LED bulb that would work, I've brought one off flea bay but unfortunately is didn't work?

Few things I'd like to add are, loctite is now my best friend, kick starting on a warmish engine can be a nightmare and this is my 4th motorbike and defiantly my favourite.

hi i could not get on with the automatic decompressor ,so fitted a small lever near the clutch lever so now have manual decompressor ,so much better also fitted the 20lt acerbis fuel tank as found the standard tank 10lt too limiting ,i would have a look at your linkage bearings they might need cleaning and regreasing ,mine looked to be with its original grease at 10 years old ,,enjoy its a great bike ,steve

Congrats and welcome to the forums!

motorcyclespareparts.eu is a great a site. First you find the TTs part number, and then you do a search on the part number. A list will pop up with all the Yamaha models that uses that specific part.

Regarding the footpegs, I splurged and got a set of Pivot Pegz for mine. I'm still on the fence of they're worth it or not. Check out YouTube, I've got a short vid on them.

I've always used Motul Chain Lube for my bike. I've read that WD40 contains solvents that deteriorate the rubber o-ring on chains. I've since upgraded to a Scottoiler which was a worthwhile investment. Its a bit messy but the pros of automated lubrication outweighs the messiness.

The TTs headlight is anemic. Based on the feedback the ADVmonster LED drop-in headlight should be good. I've invested in a brand-new fairing with aftermarket LED lights from ADVmonster. Expensive but I found that wind protection is sorely needed on long rides. I've also mounted a LED tailbulb on mine. I don't think its any brighter, but it can't burn out like a regular tailbulb.

I keep on hearing how difficult it is to kickstart a warm TT, but I've got zero issues with mine. Starts first kick warm all the time

Where did you get your supermoto wheels from? I'm looking to convert mine but sourcing wheels is a nightmare.

Thanks for the input Steve! I agree it's a pain in the backside to constantly have to fill the tank up but as I only go on short blasts on the bike I cannot justify coughing up the cash for the 20ltr tank.

Out of interest what size sprockets are you running? Currently mines 14/40. Tempted to change the rear to a 48 but wondering what power will be like.

Cannot thank you enough for that little gem of a side mate! Thank you I'll be looking into new levers and foot pegs soon enough. I've ordered a motocross style number board/sticker set for her to jazz her up a little in the mean time.

I've brought and LED rear bulb from eBay but unfortunately I didn't work! Ill have to carry on looking.

Also another upgrade I've seen which is worth while is a magnetic sump plug. Found a m14 1.5 plug originally for a fiesta which apparently fits. (Off eBay £5.99).

I may well look into the head light upgrade you speak of as the current one is like a tea candle!

Hello, they're TALON hubs with EXCEL rims. I didn't convert the bike myself so unsure about the ins and outs but emails talon and I'm sure they'll be helpful.

Other option would be respoke the original hubs onto a set of 17" rims, it'll be cheaper.

There's a US site called superbrightleds.com, do a search for the 1157 dual function retrofit bulb. The bulbs get good reviews on advrider. Remember to get a red LED, or it won't light up a true visible red color.

I got a magnetic sump plug from eBay too, but it was way too short compared to the original one. Its still lying somewhere in a drawer. I could have fitted it, but the thread is so short I'd worry tightening it. Next time your changing oil measure the length of the OEM sump plug and get one that matches. Let me me know if you find one.

I'm running stock sprockets 15/44 on stock 21/18 rims. I got a sprocket set and a DID 520 VX chain from kedo.de I did a lot of searching and ended up with Kedo as they were competitively priced and I wanted a shop where I could buy both sprockets and chains at the same time. Kedo is a top site and their catalogue is excellent too. They're Yamaha specialists incl. the TT and XT. I highly recommend them.

I think the stock sprockets are OK for my kind of riding. The bikes grunty enough, it'll pull off in 2nd, and still bearable while cruising at 110-120 km/h.

Check out gearingcommander.com You can enter different sprocket sizes and it'll calculate speed and revs. The TTs values are already in the program.

Try enduroshop.de they do both rims and hubs, or they can lace your existing hubs onto new rims.
