Post Urgent: XT600E Air Filter near Novosibirsk RUSSIA
Hi everybody

I need your help.

I'm on my round the world trip and I need an air filter (Original Yamaha or K&N or any other good aftermarket product), that fits in a Yamaha XT600E (3UX, Year 2000).

I have problems with the dust and it reduces my power and nearly doubles my fuel consumption to 10 litres.

My travelling route for the next days in RUSSIA is: Barnaul - Novosibirsk - Krasnoyarsk - Irkutsk - Ulan Ude and after that to Ulanbaatar Mongolia.

Does anybody know, where to get an air filter on my route or has any helpful contacts?

Hi Ulf,

There is a guy called Viktor in Barnaul he runs a bike shop called MotoHaus22 i think.
I think his number is 89039570435, I was there last year with a friend on KTM 690's and he helped us out.
Nice guy but doesnt speak english.
There is also another guy called Andrei but can't find his number at the moment, I'm sure someone will be able to help you with it.

Forgot to mention, we had the gps marks for Viktors garage off Walter Colebatch's waypoints on the HUBB.

Thanks for your answer.
We visited Viktors garage and also two other garages from Colebatch's waypoint file in Barnaul. Unfortunately, they couldn't help me.

Actually, I'm riding with a self-made filter. I cutted out the paper of the genuine filter and put a TwinAir filter (cutted out from another model) in it, but the carburettor doesn't get enough air.

Try to (gently) clean the stock paperfilter with compressed air, should buy you some time.

Someone else who has been there recently may have better info, but I found a Yamaha dealer with shops in Barnaul and Novosibirsk.

Good idea and I've done this before, but since a few days I have no paper left in the frame of the air filter;-) I cutted it out and replaced it with a TwinAir fabric from another bike, but the carb still needs more air...

If you're riding in dusty conditions do not fit a K&N air filter. They are good for air flow but not very efficient at filtering.

Yep +++10000 ^^^^. The very last air filter I would use for any engine is a K&N. The only way to get more flow in a given filter size is to reduce filtering(aka..bigger micron passages through the fabric). The oil that is used is what they use to "filter" the air, it works ok to an extent but not as good as a solid cloth type pleated filter(plus an oil layer?). I'll stick with actual physical filtering. I also use Outerwares filter skins over my filter in dusty conditions. When running/playing in sand dunes I have also run a couple rings of grease(the stickiest I can find) around the inside of the intake runners, after the filter and before the carb, to catch that last little bit that may get through, just have to make sure it doesn't run and go into the carb passages, the sticky stuff works for this
