Vaseline ?
Hello everyone,
Now that the thread title has got everyone interested, here comes the question ! I think I read somewhere that to keep the rubber mountings (ie anti vibration mounts, plastic cover mounting etc) in good condition, they could be rubbed in vaseline, petroleum jelly, or it could have been talc.
Has anyone ever heard of this ? Is it me and I'm just having strange dreams ?
I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of anything like this, or a 'real' product to keep some old 'mountings' going a few more years.
Thanks in advance, Chris.

I 'Think' it is a bad idea to mix natural rubber and vaseline..... silicon grease may be better.

Grease them rubbers
You used to be able to buy rubber grease. I've had a tube for about 15 years and its still not finished. Its red.
Found this:
Castrol Red Rubber Grease
Special rubber compatible grease for use on hydraulic brake and clutch components where hardening or swelling must be avoided. 500gm

I like the red one
Thanks,
I like the sound of the Castrol, that would fit the bill perfectly, but I'm not certain I'd readily find that here (apart from mail order from the UK of course, although I could just find some in the local car shop, you can never tell here).
Silicon grease I assume should be fine also, I bet if I have a good look around the car shops I'll find something or another !
So no one has heard of anything like vaseline etc ? God only knows where I dreamt that up then !
Thanks CHRIS
