Which bike TTR 600 or XT600

Looking at getting another bike, recently sold my BMW X Challenge and have been regretting it ever since.
Looking at a TTR 600 or XT600, nothing majorly expensive, maybe 2000GBP max, want a bike that I can trail ride plus do a bit of overlanding on, maybe ride down to Maroc on.
I sold the XC as it would be too expensive for me to modify to what I want regarding fuel and luggage etc...............dont want anything I will be scared to scratch.
Recently I also had a 2008 660 tenere, I liked the bike but found it would be maybe too heavy for me for offroad.
Any thoughts or advice welcome

TTR 600 is more offroad moto I think...
The XT600 is less offroad than the TTR but you can find anything in ebay to modify it.
Both are very good and reliable bikes...

What about a DR650 or XR650??

I know a bit about the XT/TT yamaha's after owning several in the last 30 years or so. I now have a XT600E and had a TT600RE before that. I sold my XT660R in 2012. I never owned a TTR600 but rode my buddy's several times.

I say go for the XT600E if the primary focus is NOT offroad. It is nice on the road, commuting, etc and can still handle off road OK. It has a massive subframe that should handle heavy luggage without problems. It is a true dual sport IMHO. The XT660R is more of a roadbike and the TTR600 a dirtbike. All IMHO of course.

But if you go for a XT600E and plan to use it offroad you MUST get a decent bashplate. The ground clearance is not that great.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
