XT600, 55W, what year?

Hello, new on here, so boring first post, but here goes. I have just bought an XT600 Tenere, and am trying to find out exactly what year it is as it only came with a V5 and one old MOT. It was sold as a 1988 model, but according to the V5 it was first registered 1997, but declared manufactured in 1985, giving it a "B" plate. Both the frame and engine numbers match and they start with 55W, could anyone enlighten me please?
Thanks
Steve

Sounds like you have an import. Hence the first reg date.
My 55W was a 1984 so your B plate is what to expect (mine was an A reg).

Thanks for the replies Gents, 1985 it is then. Foggie, your's has come up an absolute treat, if I can ask, where did you get the new decals? Mine will need some in the near future.

It's not quite a full graphics set as it doesn't have the "Mono Cross" stickers for the swinging arm.

I had an original set of Graphics scanned by a local printer and then had two sets produced, one for the Blue & one for the white bike. The blue set is on my 55W as the photo.

I have one FULL graphic set left for the white 1985 Tenere with the Italic type speed blocks on the tank @ £60 posted (to UK). The 1984 has vertical speedblocks

I can also supply the 1985 Tenere Italic speed blocks for the blue 55W like mine again at £60 posted. However, I would need a few weeks to get these.

Cheers

Gary

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
