xt600 welding needed
Hello,
My beloved xt had a known issue with its rear-left flashlight mount. It was almost completly cut ever since i bought the bike.I tryed to repair with epoxy "cold weld" material but that didnt work very well and the mount fell off yesterday.
Id like to ask what type of welding it takes to get the whole thing back into place, thanks!
P.S.
Btw id also like to ask how to get rid of the serverall
rusty spots all over the frame.

Mig weld will be best for the fix.
Wire wool or sand paper get back to metal then use a proprietary rust inhibitor as a undercoat.

not sure about this, but some kind of welding can be dangerous for electrical parts, disconnect at least ignition unit, and in any case would be better ask to a specialist to avoid damages...

the problem is not the battery! The problem comes from current used for welding! Have a talk with some expert before welding and take apart ignition unit, or you could fry your ignition unit, coil or other things not very cheap to replace.

disconnect the battery
as long as you disconnect your battery you are safe, Current will not travel trugh the electrical system if the sercuit is open(disconnected battery)
But if it makes you feel better, it only takes a secund to pull the stick for the ignition box.

Electric Welding Can Fry Stuff.
Always completely remove ALL the computers for a motor vehicle (cars, trucks, or motorcycles) before attacking any thing with a arc welder of any sort. If you do this you’re safe. If you don’t, you take a risk. Disconnecting the battery only protects the battery, not the computers.
Anti-lock brake computers, fuel injection computers, ignition CDI/TCI units, GPS units, etc… anything with a “chip’ –which is about everything on a modern motorcycle.
Or, use an oxy-acetylene (gas) welder.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
