yamaha bond 1215
Hello All !
Whilst dismantling the bike to remove the head I destroyed the gasket for the cam chain adjuster. I have various thicknesses of gasket paper, can I use this to make a replacement ?
Also anyone found a suitable alternative for the recommended "yamaha bond 1215" that I can use when I rebuild the head/rocker cover ?
Thanks !
Bill

Hiya Bill,
for your first question, indeed yes, and why not. It is easy access and if it should not work then replacement can be done without too much difficulty.
Second question, in my experience this (1215 bond) it’s a silicon liquid gasket) has proven to be the most reliable. You are probably aware of other products (e.g. loctite and threebond) on the market, (and I have tried a few) but in my experience the Yamaha 1215 has been the most consistently reliable and easy to use. Plus they cost more or less the same if I recall correctly. Just a reminder that you ensure that none of it goes into the inside (a smear on both surfaces will do) of the engine, that is, it’s not compatible with the sump filter and oil ways.
Nearly there!

Hi Socks !
Thanks for the advice, I think ill give the gasket making a go, as you say it can`t hurt to try. The one that came off was black, brittle and looked plasticy...(.maybe just impregnated with oil)? thats why I was unsure.

If you have your own gasket paper then sure, make one. Just use the CCT as a template..
Smear a THIN layer of silicon flange sealant on each side of the gasket too if you like.
For your rocker cover, Yamabond is great stuff but no way worth the cost..
Hylomar 'Blue' is just as good in my opinion. I've used it countless times and it's never let me down.

I think threebond make yamahabond and kawasakibond and can be bought without a bike manufacturer's name on it for a lot less than dealers charge

Yes, soapdodger, indeed I had forgotten at time of writing above that threebond, and I agree, it is equally as good and probably as you say made by the same manufacturer, cannot comment on kawasakibond as I have never used.
This is a great source of information here on the HUBB is it not, one just has to be cautious with the information supplied! Always good to cross referance information supplied.
