Horizons Unlimited 5th Montenegro Travellers Meeting

Thursday Aug 24 - Sunday Aug 27, 2017 - near Kolasin, Montenegro

You missed it! Go here for current event!

It's All About Overland Adventure

Whether you're a seasoned veteran with wisdom to share or a complete novice hungry for ideas and guidance, it doesn't matter if you ride a motorcycle, a bicycle, or drive an expedition vehicle...

Horizons Unlimited meetings are for everyone who dreams of adventure along the road less travelled.

Horizons Unlimited Montenegro Event Schedule

The Plan

Our plan is very simple. We will wait for your arrival on Thursday and you will be a part of our story for the next three days! Share your experiences with other participants, learn something from them or you teach them, take a ride thru unspoiled nature.

Presentations will start on Thursday afternoon, continue on Friday and Saturday during the whole day. For those who want to get in touch with our beautiful and unspoiled nature we can suggest some routes (gravel and paved) which we planned for Friday and Saturday. After Saturday barbecue, on Sunday morning everybody goes in their own direction. Some will go back home, and some who knows, maybe will continue further after getting some great ideas during the meeting.

It's Not Failure If You Don't Tell Anyone
Turning a trip around can be the best U-turn you ever made

A small budget, cheap bike, limited research and no one to go with has never stopped Graham from going. A light-hearted history of how he was thrown into the deep end of overland travel, persevered, succeeded, and then with inexcusable confidence, went on to fail spectacularly on the next trip. How sometimes turning around can turn the trip around and ultimately fulfilment is found.

Graham is the author of three books, resident Adventure Rider Radio presenter, and occasional contributor on Adventurer Bike TV - proving beyond argument via several media that having little knowledge and strong desires have been enough to satisfy many travel yearnings. Doing his best to inspire, encourage, and inform without too much emphasis on what could go wrong.

Journeys That Free Your Spirit

The final destination is not the goal. The meaning of the journey is traveling, getting to know people, new cultures, customs, admiring nature and enjoying the freedom of the spirit. So far, Novina has visited 66 countries on five continents, each of which has fascinated him with its specialties, beauties, nature, and people. Once you taste the magic of travel and freedom on the journey, it's hard to tame your restless spirit. It's hard to be home and think about the countries you have not yet visited, about the countries that you would like to visit, and which would offer you plenty of pleasure and joy.

Travelling Through Russia
How, where, the risks, and useful tips

Russia is a huge country meant for exploring. It is easily an essential part of any RTW trip. Russia is a safe, inexpensive, and friendly place that is rich in history and with very diverse climate, scenery, and road conditions, although with fewer "alpine"-like roads. Rusland shares his best tips to travel in this beautiful country and some specific information to make the most of your adventures there.

Magical Solo Touring on a Honda 125 ccm
One girl, one little motorbike, dozens of adventures, and thousands of kilometers

Olga will share some of her solo trips across Europe accompanied by her brave little Honda. For almost eight year, they have been exploring some of the nicest corners of Europe and, this year, she decided to change the bike to XR's bigger sister CRF 250 L, following her deepest belief that the only right choice for her is still a small Honda. She provides an ultimate guide to travelling when you have no money, no big bike, and not much mechanical experience whatsoever - relying only on the power of a smile, trust, a bit of luck, Couchsurfing, and friendships around Europe.

Originally from Poland, Olga is an HR consultant living in Prague. She has travelled solo around Europe since 2009. Commuting forever moving from one place to another - and not only on a motorbike - Olga is passionate about music, art, travels, and psychology.

From Caucasus With Love
From Zagreg to Caucasus and back: a glimpse of the vibe from a 40-day trip

Friends Hrvoje and Igor recount their 40-day trip from Zagreb, Croatia, to Caucasus and back, and all the interesting places in between. Their long-time fascination with the cradle of the so-called western civilization crowned their adventurous-cultural expedition. The richness of this part of the world shines through cultural heritage, beautifully diverse nature, and, most important above all, the geopolitical positions that shaped the history of these interesting and hospitable Caucasians. After all, the question remains: do we have anything in common? Maybe more we are willing to admit...

This trip to the Caucasus is their first longer trip by motorcycles and, in a way, a kind of preparation for much longer, bigger trips that include more than two continents. As soon as possible...

How We Failed at Reaching the Pamir
How We Succeeded in Finding Adventure

1. How We Failed at Reaching the Pamir

After years of saving and planning for an adventurous trip through Iran, Central Asia and Mongolia, mechanical misfortunes on the road totally altered Sofie and Jo's plans. It turned a well-planned trip into a real adventure. They will talk about all the problems encountered and how they dealt with them, but, most of all, about the wonderful things that happen when you are vulnerable and in trouble in a strange country. They will not bore you with lots of technical discussions, but rather share the emotional roller coaster they lived, the generous help of the people they met and the experiences they would not have had otherwise.

2. How We Succeeded in Finding Adventure

A five-month trip to Central Asia and back. At least, that was the plan. When you set out for a longer trip you know where you start, but you never know where you will end up. So, Tajikistan turned into Nordkapp. After suffering serious delays due to mechanical problems in Iran, Sofie and Jo radically changed their plans and turned north instead of heading east. They'll share the highlights of how this still turned out into an awesome journey and what they have learned from it.

Jo and Sofie are two crazy spirits with a passion for motorcycles and travelling. They love to pack up and leave, to discover new countries and civilizations, to boldly go where… well… relatively few have gone before! Unlike the Starship Enterprise crew, they like to keep things down to earth.

Sofie and Jo on the road.

LOTS of presentations to come! As people register to present we'll list them here.

How about you? We're all here to learn, and there's LOTS to learn! We want to do more presentations and seminars - but we need volunteers to give them! Any topic you can contribute having to do with motorcycle travel, maintenance, planning etc, lasting 20 minutes or more, would be great. Please contact us here to volunteer.

Motorcycling the Americas

We are currently two years into a round the world motorcycle trip that started in Seattle, WA, USA going south to Ushuaia, Argentina then from Uruguay we rode a cargo freighter with our motorcycles to Antwerp, Belgium. From Europe we plan to ride to Southeast Asia.

Shannon and Mike Mills in Chile.

The cargo freighter we rode from South America to Europe was a five-week journey so we used that time to produce a 24-minute video combining photos and video from our 16-months through North, Central, and South America. It is a fun representation of life on the road in Latin America.

Shannon and Mike Mills at end of Ruta 3.

Following the video we will discuss what it took to prepare for a multi-year motorcycle trip and answer all related questions. We will also take this time to explore the many resources we have available (for free) on our website such as expense, accommodation, and border reports per country as well as budget preparatory tools, weather spreadsheets, and of course our travel articles and photos. We will also touch on having short motorcycle adventures within a life of jobs, mortgage payments, and other commitments.

Enduro Ride Montenegro

Dear Adventurists, Let me guide you through the fantastic enduro world and give you a glimpse into the magnificent trails through Montenegrin mountains, deep forests, mirror-like lakes and superb mountain peaks

Ivan Drobnjak.

During the working hours I run operations and finances for one department in super yacht marina Porto Montenegro, but in every second of free time I'm trying to explore unknown off road mountain trails and paths...

Ivan Drobnjak.

Since enduro rides became my passion, I have founded motorbike guided agency in Montenegro, with friend of mine.

Ivan Drobnjak.

Like all of us, my first ride was on brothers Tomos automatic, and that was an awesome feeling. Many years after I bought my first motorbike. It was an Aprilia rs 125 sport bike, not long after that, the same brother came up with two cross motorbikes on the trail... and from that moment the way I look at two wheels is completely changed... Do I have to mention that despite faults of the first bike (no brakes, no power, no el starter, air filter...) it was love at the first ride. That 81 honda xl250 is still in my garage.

Central and Western Europe

Life is made out of moments, lots of them are lost through time but some of them end up sticking with you. I try to make mine count. I try to make 'em stick and that's where motorcycle comes in. So many of my memorable memories are one way or the other linked with motorcycles. From young age stealing another lap on little Honda, through my teenage years trying to impress girls on the scooter, until now, exploring different places and meeting amazing people on my tourer. Not all memories are pleasant ones, but the great ones outweigh not so great ones by far and that makes me coming back.

Djordje Markovic.

Most of my tours were through Central and Western Europe. I did own a bike while I lived in US, but did not get to explore with it nearly as much as I would like I did. The good thing is that with every trip I keep extending my boundaries and I intend keep doing it as much as I can.

Horizons Unlimited Montenegro Ride-outs

If you don't want to participate on daily presentation we have prepared some ride-outs for you. All rides have been prepared so that you see how beautiful nature is in Montenegro (lakes, rivers, mountain peaks...) We prepared five different routes with different levels of difficulties. Every ride (if it's interesting for participants) will start in the morning so they can be finished before start of first afternoon presentation. Of course we do have guides for these rides, but if somebody wants to go alone, we will provide them with maps and route information. If you want, camp owners can arrange some lunch packets for these rides (€10 euros per person).
