Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Awful people to deal with. The inital quote was for $600, this then escalated to as they said the crate was larger than it was. Also delayed the shipment by two weeks without informing me. Also insisted that I needed a fumigation cert, cost $250. I was never asked for this in Valpariso. ECU LINE were the actual shippers, couldn

I originally Broke my Leg in Honduras and decided to head home for a few weeks to recover and meet up with Mike in Bolivia. Direct from Honduas to Boliva, the cheapest was @$5000.
So after some hunting around we found shipping the bike from Honduras to Miami, then Miami to Bolivia was much cheaper. As I was hauled up with a broken leg, speed wasn

Gilberto

Okay, so I was determined to find a cheap way accross. This took a little bit of time to find but was well worth it. In Colon, Panama you can go to Peir 3, its at the end of Calle 4 (you can just ask any taxi to take you there) Its a small port but has boats going to Colombia on a fairly reagular basis. We had to go back a few times and speak with the security gaurd (Gilberto) until a ship came in. We got a ride on a Green, old, rusty, cargo ship. Not a big one just about 60 feet long. They charge 100 USD per person and 100 USD per bike. We shipped our two bikes a (KLR 650 and a KLR 250) and ourselfs for a total of 400USD. They have immigration and an aduana at the port so its easy. Its the cheapest price I have heard of yet. The manager of the port speaks english and can let you know the legitamicy of the boat. We had to wait because we passed up the first ride (known smugglers) and waited for the green boat. It was worth the wait for the 600 USD savings. Please feel free to email me for any more information. Make sure you check with the Port Manager before getting on any boat. He can tell you if the boat is okay or not. And remember you get what you pay for!!

Interfreight

Thambu Chetty Street No. 318 (old No.174), third floor, Chennai

Mr.I.P.Prasanna Kumar

After searching the Internet, we decided to have a look at three agents.
Binny Ltd. does not provide this service anymore.
Winstar and Interfreight services seemed to be equally good at first glance.

We chose: Interfreight services,
Thambu Chetty Street No. 318 (old No.174), third floor, Chennai

Mr.I.P.Prasanna Kumar gave us the following price detail. Price in total (Indian rupees) for two bikes:

Packing Charges 5000
Ocean freight Chennai to Kuala Lumpur USD 5 P/CBM
Ocean freight Chennai to Bangkok USD 15 P/CBM
Custom documentation 2000
Examination CHGS 3000
Conveyance 1000
O.T. Charges 750
Inspection EXPS 3000
Agency 5000
Tax 10,2%

Since we liked to keep the bikes for 3 weeks in Chennai before shipping them to KL, they offered us storage in their warehouse in Chennai at no cost. They also promised to skip the tax.

So 3 weeks later we were back in Chennai and we immediately went to the office of Interfreight to get the shipping done. First the bikes had to be crated and moved to customs for inspection, so we went to the warehouse where they were stored the last three weeks. Unfortunately one mirror got broken in the warehouse, but that seemed to be the only thing what went wrong there. After preparing the bikes, we had to wait for the wooden crates and the truck to arrive. Finally at dusk everything had arrived and the crating could start. It went quiet smoothly considering the pretty high truck to get the bikes on, while the forklift was broken

600 EUR, everything included for 2 motorbikes
