all washed out
I normally travel on 2 wheels, but when I was offered a Hyundai Tucson for a bargain price I thought I would try going on 4 wheels for a change. Obviously it's more a hardcore shopping car than overland car. I have however one major issue with it and that is water throwing on screen at every large puddle. Is this normal for 4x4 type cars or just this one? It seems very difficult to stop it unless I slow to 5MPH. If there is a lot of water about it's terrible even just driving on sealed roads. Is there something I can do to reduce this?

the physics of it are this:
4x4s require good approach and departure angles so the wheels are, generally, placed towards the ends of the vehicle. They also have a high ground clearance. this means that when you hit a puddle the water is projected forwards by the (usually wide) tyres to the front of the vehicle, shooting up in front of it so that you then drive into it. In a normal car they just hit the underside of the vehicle because it is lower and the wheels are generally further back.
The only thing you can do about it is fit mudflaps in front of the wheels like rally cars of old,

or live with it which is what most of us do!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
