Type / brand of water filter for Africa recommendations?

Hi All,

I'm building the water system for my new 4x4 to travel around Africa for two years.

I want to be able to take on board water of slightly questionable quality, pumping it through a high quality filter on the way into the tank, then through the filter on the way out of the tank before use.

I won't pump in water from anything as bad as murky swamps, but maybe it won't always be perfect bottled water either.

What brand / type of filter do people recommend for this kind of use in Africa?

I've seen ones that go down to 0.5 microns, but do I need to consider other factors as well?

Thanks,
-Dan

I have a 3 stage system but it takes some space.
1) 1 micron fleece filter http://www.waterfiltersonline.com/am...nt-978-std.asp
2) iodine secreting element http://www.taylor-purification.co.nz...index.html#mcv
3) activated charcoal element to re-absorb iodine and supply additional filtration http://www.waterfiltersonline.com/am...bon-10-std.asp
Requires 3 standard sized blue screw-on covers with headers and plumbing
I also carry Accepta 8505 ClO2 generating tablets that put 4ppm into 30L water each.
Has worked well so far.

Charlie

Three possibles
LIFESAVER Jerrycan - 10,000 | 20,000 Litre Portable Water Filter

Travel Unit Water Filter | Live PristineHydro

Products - Katadyn Products Inc.

The lifesaver jerry can does what it says , and its useful for getting water if you have onboard tank, Its best use is just for drinking water , IIRC its about £260 so not cheap , but its also gives a quick supply if there are several of you and its hot so hydration a must. I have no connection with lifesaver other than as a customer. HTSH
