Australia to Portugal & beyond
Australia to Portugal & beyond
I am planning to travel post covid in 2021 from Newcastle (Australia) to Portugal by motorcycle. I have no time limits as I will be recently retired. Looking for travel companion/s to share the adventure. Current route is from Newcastle to Darwin -Timor-Indonesia-Malaysia- Asia (counties?)- India- Iran ?- The Stans- Russia-Poland - Europe to Portugal. After that I'm not sure yet.
Trip will comprise of camping, hostels and hotels as required. My route is not set and can be amended as required. Yes I will be 60 years young but I have ridden motorcycles since I was 18. I currently ride a Honda VTX1800 cruiser but I am looking at a small to mid size adv bike to do the trip.
I would love to talk to others over a bourbon and discuss and plan.

The wife and I left Lochiel, down near Merimbula and did just that back in Aug 16. The bike is currently stuck in Sofia, Bulgaria. We hope to get back there this coming year so as to continue east through Russia and beyond. If I were solo I'd ditch our Africa Twin, I'd be on a WR250 or similar. Trust me weight is your enemy. If you are coming down to the south of the state anytime, feel free to drop by. We have a wealth of info. You may find a little inspiration here.

Oh, we both turn 60 this coming year and feel we have years of travel in us yet, go for it.

Hard to plan around the Covid stuff. I have a vaguely similar plan but I'm going to continue to work albeit 4 days a week until vaccines are rolled out over most of the planet. I'm 66 now, based in Norther outskirts of Syd bike of choice will be my DR650

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
