Comprehensive motorcycle insurance that includes rebuild components?
Hi everyone,
Anyone know of an insurer in Australia that will cover the entire motorcycle's cost including the 'add ons'? My new DR650's ride away price will be basically double the 'agreed value' of around $A8,000 after an extensive rebuild.
Cheers.

It will be hard to find an insurer that will do that sort of thing on your say of the value, you might need to get a certified valuation and even then I'm guessing they would be guided by market prices. Shannons advertise agreed value insurance for "classic" and "enthusiast" vehicles, they may give you a go.

The 'agreed value' is not one that both parties concur. You agree with 'their' valuation. Easy!

Hi RogerM,
Bingo! I haven't read the small print yet, however, the 2017 DR650 with the build components at $15,500 attracts a premium of $701 P/A with a $500 excess. Advised to have a list of the components fitted and prices, simply for replacement purposes, which I thought was fair enough. Vince Strang is preparing it and a full copy of the invoice will be no problem. Perhaps this information will help another rider in the same boat, (so to speak!).
Cheers.

Talking with a couple who have a classic bike this weekend, insured through Shannons, check that you can use the bike every day. Their bike was limited to a maximum of 3 months usage in any period of 12 months.

Thanks for that. When I was giving my details the 'consultant' from Shannons, asked me how often I would be riding the bike. My reply was that, I would be on a RTW trip; stage by stage and that, 'well, probably every day' That was OK. I will check that again once the bike is ready and I submit my application for the cover. I have heard that 'Classic' vehicles motorcycles or cars are restricted on the mileage they can cover. Its to do with their 'fragility';read, 'old'! More of an insurance risk.

gotago2, have you CONFIRMED IN WRITING that your insurance covers you outside of Australia? Because if it does, I want to know about it, and so does everyone else.
The NORM worldwide is that your insurance covers you in your own country, only, with a few exceptions, e.g. Canada / USA have an agreement, EU also does similar, etc.
Check carefully!

Grant,
At this stage the insurance will only be for Australia. Overseas will be a completely different kettle of madly thrashing fish I guess.
Thanks.
