Looking for a bike for December in Auckland

Hi everybody

We are a french couple always travelling on Royal Enfield through India, we are working for a travel agency bases in India but we know we won't afford this kind of bike there for 6 weeks. We are looking to buy/rent preferably an old 80 or 90 model trail, our budget is around 2500 NZD

We're going to New Zealand on 25th November, staying a while in Auckland with some NZ's friends. We're looking for a bike to travel until mid january, total of 6 weeks max. We don't find proper renting so we would like to buy one in Auckland and to sale it when we'll leave.

Do you have any advise or website or contact directly in Auckland ?
Thanks for your help !

By far the best place to look, in NZ, is on TradeMe. eBay is a dead duck here. This is the link:.

Motorbikes – Bikes, motorcycles, motorbike parts, motorcycle helmets and more for sale on trademe.co.nz

Something like this might be good?

Kawasaki KLX650 1987 | Trade Me

Keep in mind bikes are often cheaper down south, and JetStar can fly you to Christchurch for about NZ$80 if you book ahead and are flexible with your flying times (late night/early morning flights can be cheaper). That way you can spend more time in the South Island, where the riding is usually considered better, and then sell the bike in Auckland.

Regards

Nigel in NZ

I bought my bike through a 3rd party as trademe would not allow me an account. Their loss not mine. Once I had been put in touch we did a private sale.

Thanks everybody for your help and tips !

Trade Me was indeed the really good website, I could discuss with some people and good news, after some time we find a Royal Enfield to rent at a reasonable price!

Let's bring a bit of Indian spirit in NZ this winter !

Hey Folks,

Long time lurker finally signed up. Top job on the links

Im packing in my job in Oz after almost 5 years and hitting the road in New zealand from early feburary for some moto camping - not setting a time limit as of yet but definately plan on touring the north and south islands.

Il be looking for a bike to buy around that time, i have been checking out trademenz and most bikes seem quite pricey - Are there any people here selling around that time

I have a mate in auckland that can check out the bike and store if you are leaving in Jan or prior to my arrival

Thanks in advance

Con

Congratulations on quitting your job and leaving the rat race, me and my partner did that a year ago and did some exploring and it is one of the best things we have done!
Regarding your quest for a bike, I might be able to help you out with that.
I have a 2001 Honda Transalp that I might be keen to sell you and also be keen to buy back off you when you are finished your journey in NZ.
If you think this would be suitable feel free tocontact me via email

Cheers. Lyndon

Amazing Trip - 5000 km on a Royal Enfield

Hi there !

Our adventure to the land of kiwis was fantastic.
We finally bought an Enfield to a Punjabi guy in Auckland and sale it at the end of our trip.

We were bit weather dependent, people were very curious to see 2 french people on a classic with a small tent and lots of avocados !!

If you have any question regarding itineraries, don't hesitate !

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
