Recommendations for Moto rental in New Zealand

Hello!

Looks like I will be in New Zealand around Christmas and going into January. Was considering renting a bike for a couple of days to ride in areas near Auckland. Any recommendations for good rental companies would be very welcome, as would any tips for short trips in this area. Would ride further afield, but I am doing this while my wife does something else, and then we will be traveling together.

Thanks!

Can't help with rental but you should be able to find something in Auckland.

You have 2 great options for a 1-2 day ride out of Auckland: 1. Coromandel, scoot around as much of the peninsula as possible, If you don't mind some gravel riding right up to Fletcher Bay is really cool. 2. Northland, sticking to the coast as much as possible up one side & back down the other yields a pretty good ride. Allow plenty of time per mile on the twisty roads.

If you can, get out for your ride before Xmas, boxing day in NZ is when everybody heads away to the beach for their summer holidays & the roads in the above areas will be a lot busier than normal for a few weeks after that.

Cheers
Clint

Thanks for the tips Clint!

Looking like my time to ride will be during the week from Christmas to New Years, so will be sharing the road with everyone on holiday break! Don't mind gravel/dirt riding, assuming I can get a decent bike. Don't think I'll be able to bring my camping gear (too much luggage), so probably need to sort out lodging somehow. Getting excited thinking about these details... woo hoo!

Motorcycle reantal in NZ

Hi

I used this company to rent a BMWF650GS back in 2008 for a one way trip from Auckland to Christchurch...they are still in business. No problems with my rental.

Thanks Guy C, much appreciated, especially as I had not found this place via my previous online searches! I would be looking for that same bike (now a G650, but the single), so perfect pointer for me!

I hired a VFR800 from South Pacific moto tours for 10 days in January, they were absolutely fantastic. I paid a little bit extra and they supplied a GPS for me.

They're mostly based in Christchurch but have options in Auckland.
The owners and their whole team were very friendly and the bike was in good condition, supplied with side & top cases & automatic oiler.
There are self guided options etc if you wish to go that route but NZ was so easy to navigate/find places to stay i just winged it day to day.

Not supposed to sound like an advertisment but i was a chuffed customer.

I too hired to Triumphs from South Pacific tours for a 7 days ride around the South Island
They did everything for us - we just followed the GPS to accomodations and recommended where the best was to have lunch and eat

Thanks again for the recommendations. My plans have gone through about three shifts, but now I'm back to the original... sigh... ever the way of things. It sounds like the biggest challenge will be the timing, as my trip coincides with holidays. Trying to get everything nailed down. Always open to further info. Thanks again!
