How to Disable Traction Control - 2017 R1200GS

Well it is just not very clear to me on how to do this. Every now and then I must luck out on my pushing of buttons and I manage to disable both ABS and also Traction Control which is my preference when in the off road. The instructions are not clear at all for the 2017. It seems that they perhaps did not update the manual for the 2017 Version.

I have the plug installed. I am in road mode. I push on the ABS button and the ABS stops flashing and goes solid, but then how to go the next step is a mystery to me. I have red posts about quick push button, medium push button and long push button. The only thing that works every time is a long push on the ABS will disable and then another long push will enable.

Please help me figure out how to disable my Traction Control and then re-enable it.

Sell that bike and bought a bike with almost no electrical components. Believe me, there is a lot on the market.

I just copy/pasted your question into a well known search engine that begins with G and there 80 thousand hits. I saw an answer there. Something to do with how hard or long you press a particular button?

Or, do you have the manual that comes with the bike?

Your local dealer should also know, no? If it's a 2017 bike you will have bought it new, won't you?

Well I have the answer. Obvious but not! It boils down to pressing the traction control / abs button for about 3 seconds for traction control and 5 seconds for abs. In any order. BUT the most important requirement, that is not documented anywhere, is that this will NOT work if you just turn on the ignition. The engine MUST be running. Same for D-ESA. I called the dealer and they gave me the 3 second 5 second thing, but nothing about engine being on. While sitting on the bike I called the dealer again, and he says go ahead and do it. THEN he says, hey you got to turn the engine on and be in neutral! BMW - Please update your manual.

The 3 seconds/5 seconds will be based on the systems refresh rate/ heartbeat, not astromical observation. You'll need to play to find your own real world number.

The systems I meet that have this have an excuse, legislation means you can't get a button where its needed. The Bavarians could have fitted a switch if they dropped the cost saving and technology for the sake of it approach.

Yes while travelling you cant rely on someone else doing everything for you. Out there you have to know your bike and be able to repair it no matter what heppens but this is impossibe with a computer on wheels. Learn how to ride, then you dont need al this electronic nonsence

About the GS911: Find one in a third world country HAHA

There is no such thing as impossible with a man made device, only a case of bringing the right knowledge and tools. The fact you possibly lack both doesn't mean this applies to everyone. Give me a Laptop, GS911 tool or blink code over fiddling with bits of rubber, listening for strange noises or reading chickens entrails and tea leaves every time!
