Panama to Colombia

Ah the age-old adventure rider challenge, crossing the Darien Gap.
  • Sailboat - In 2012, the Stahlratte was still running. That sweet boat has gone back to Europe. We miss Captain Lulu; the experience was epic. I understand there are few to no sailboats that can legally transport motorcycles from CA to SA. [Corrections and updates are welcome!]
  • Ferry service - service has come and gone over the years, with reports of a near-disastrous fail some time back.
  • Sea containers are an option for those with time and patience.
  • Air cargo - For those with less time and more money, air cargo seems to be the popular solution. I saw this offer on a WhatsApp group and thought riders heading from CA to SA might benefit. Overland Embassy has what I think is a reasonably priced deal to fly your bike from Panama to Colombia.
$950.00 USD. PROMO STARTING FROM OCTOBER 14TH TO DECEMBER 31ST
LIMITED SPOTS...blah, blah...RESERVE YOURS NOW!...blah, blah
FLIGHTS EVERY DAY FROM TUESDAY TO SATURDAY
THIS OFFER APPLIES ONLY FOR THE ROUTE PANAMA TO COLOMBIA

You may be able to share a sea container for less.
It is not clear to me if they offer service from Colombia to Panama.
I stopped worrying about the Darien years ago and bought a series of bikes in Peru, but that is another kind of solution. =)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
