Tent

I have a Khyam Vector Quick Erect 2 man tent but sadly I suspect it's days are numbered. I've had it for many years and I'm thinking of a replacement. I know there are 1000 different tents that people use and are happy with but I'm wondering if anyone has ever used this one. It looks pretty good and pricewise, it's super attractive. I don't need an all season tent and I'm not planning to go to the Arctic or the Himalayas.....it's purely for bike travel in good weather. The youtube videos show it going up literally in seconds.

Nope, interesting but heavy. I won't take me any longer to pitch my Seek Outside Cimmaron which is loads lighter, smaller package and I can stand up in it.

I think I've seen one of those tents. Doesn't it have a pole that runs up through the middle like a teepee? That would drive me nuts I think!

It's a tipi indeed. With a centre pole. You can also hang it off a tree. It's actually huge in footprint. I've got a 2 person nest with mine and it's the same footprint as a Big Agnes Copper Spur. But with the tipi it only takes up half the floor space. The rest is vestibule that is large enough to sit and stand. It weighs less and packs smaller than any tent I've ever had.

Haven't used one, looking at the specs the Slumit is 3.5kg - which is heavy for a 2 person tent and I would not touch anything with fibreglass poles personally, Ive had them snap on me in high winds and then you can throw the tent away. It also packs quite long (71cm) I guess as the poles stay attached to the material. Good points are that is has hydrostatic head ratings of 3000mm for the tub and fly.

Im sure there are plenty worse tents out there and its a good price for a Summer weather tent, as long as you don't mind the weight and length folded.

I had a Kyham quick erect tent about 20 years ago, for Summer camping it was a good tent, used it heavily for years all over Europe until the material started delaminating and it was no longer waterproof, but I sure got my monies worth out of it

3kg dont matter on a 200+kg bike but space and comfort matters but there is also a smaler Texel 3 if you prefere. For 2 people + Luggage ok ;-)

In Thailand i used this for 3 months every day. Light, small and cheap: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Iglu-Zelt-Kup...cAAOSwdzVXn1iL

ta- rider, each of us have different priorities from our equipment, I will personally forgo some space and comfort for a lightweight tent and sleeping system that packs down small, many solo travellers do not want a big heavier 3 or 4 person tent. YMMV

Can we agree to disagree?

By the way, we are

3kg has enough of an impact. Particularly out wide and back.

Well I have finally bought a new tent.....not the one I was looking at to begin with. I purchased a Regatta Kivu 2.

Yes, it's a bit bigger than I really need but I like the size. It's also a bit heavier than I need (c.4kg) but that doesn't bother me. My old tent was just as heavy and never once caused me any concerns. It will sit across the pillion seat below the top box so the weight will be evenly distributed. I would never forego comfort and/or size just to get something that weighs a bit less. Doesn't really make sense to me when the alternative is no big deal anyway.
Some will say they have owned this tent and it was rubbish, others will say they have one and it's great. There will always be a difference of opinion about any piece of equipment but this will do nicely for me.
For the record, it is a dome tent (I can't handle those tunnel tents....again, just a personal preference); it has a hydrostatic head of 3000mm even though I don't plan going camping in the rain; it is waterproofed; it is fire retardent; it has a decent sized porch with a bathtub floor; and it's an adequate size for 2 people so with just me in it I won't have any issues with size. It has an erected footprint of 300cm x 160cm x 120cm and a packed size of 60cm x 19cm.
The only thing I'll get extra will be the pegs. A lot of tents come with rubbish pegs.
And the bonus was the price: normal retail is £100 but as we are out of season for many campers I got it for £50.
