Conversations start at stops for fuel, snack, smoke or even 'refreshment breaks' to pop behind a hedge. Bikes tend to stop where they see other stopped bikes.
The additional advantage of doing it this way is it is easier to split whereas a prearanged partner imposes restrictions and responsibilities.
