I'm leaving to go to the Balkans. I have to go into Kosovo from Serbia, wanted to know if there are problems at the border?
Kosovo is a state that deserves to be visited?
There are particular problems in finding petrol, or on the use of credit cards?
What's interesting to watch?

No problem with Kosovo, I was there last year but if you have a Kosovan stamp in your passport they will not let you into Serbia, no problem if you have another recognised ID or going to Serbia first then Kosovo.

no problem for gazoline in kosovo , for the money no worry they use euros !!!
one of the flattest land in the balkans ! people really friendly and pristina is full of cute girls !!!

If you go along the southern border you´ll love the fantastic mountain scenery, though. Kosovo is great to travel, did it last year.

I was in Kosovo a few weeks ago and was not very impressed. I came in from Serbia along a tiny road in the mountains--this was the highlight of the country, although it turns out there was no border crossing on that road, so I should not have come in that way. Once down in the flatlands, it is just ugly suburban sprawl the whole way to Pristina--very slow and impossible to pass because of all the traffic.

Pristina is nice enough, nothing special though. Everywhere that I spent money took euros, not sure what the official currency is. Drive to the Macedonian border is same as from Serbian border--slow and dull, although there are mountains at the end IIRC.

I traveled Skopje to Prizren through the mountains a few years back. Beautiful, except for all the litter. Nice people and Prizren was quite a cool place.

Kosovo does have some nice twistie roads - the mountain pass coming in from Rosaje, Montenegro to Peja, Kosovo, for one!

The other nice mountain pass is going from Gabricë -> Doganaj to Tetovo in Macedonia (avoid the main road to Skopje, heavy traffic, big border...). So contrary to "motorreiter" claims, you CAN have very decent riding done in Kosovo, if you research the roads beforehand - the old mountain pass into Tetovo / Macedonia is brilliant! Pretty high and Alpine as well (we had solid snow 4 weeks ago, road was clear though!)

No personal experience with riding across the Albanian border, but there are some spectacular mountain path roads Southwards towards Barjam Curr / ALB. Or a brand new Autobahn motorway (boring).

No problem whatsoever entering at the Peja mountain border from Montenegro MN, the guys are really nice, always have a friendly chat and are very happy to have tourist bikers!

However, you need to purchase bike insurance at an insurance booth prior to entering Kosovo, because it's not an internationally recognised country (green card not valid there).

Cost is minimal (€8 for 2 weeks?).

People are very friendly!

Riding in Kosovo itself isn't spectacular, because it's in fact just one large round valley with relatively high population density, and pretty heavy traffic with many road constructions (dust, traffic jams) on the main roads.

Petrol stations everywhere, Euro is their official currency, credit card mostly ok.

But coming in from Serbia may be an issue - make sure you get an SRB entry stamp in your passport in Serbia when you enter there, otherwise you won't be allowed back into Serbia with Kosovo enry & exit stamps only!

Just on ID card may be an Issue, so do make sure you get a Serbia stamp pre-dating the Kosovo entry stamp. Do research that beforehand!

Actually, I didn't say that you CANNOT have some decent riding in Kosovo, just that the flatlands are not interesting at all. Does that sound fun to you?

@gomodemgo: Travelling on ID card from Serbia to Kosovo works; just make sure to ask for a stamped card at the Serbian border first, which then proves you travelled into Kosovo coming from Serbia, which allows travelling back to Serbia from Kosovo.
