Looking to take a Balkan tour
Hey everyone! Very cool website.
I'm looking to explore some options for renting a bike starting somewhere in Slovenia or Northern Croatia and then heading down the coast to Greece.
I am relatively confident in figuring out lodging (camping and hostels), but i'm looking for some input on securing a motorcycle. Ideally, I would love to start in the north and drop it off in Greece, but i'm not sure if such a service exists.
If i need to pick up and drop off in the same location, so be it. But i am looking to be pointed in the right direction with regard to bike logistics.
Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to HU!
What you're looking for doesn't exist that I know of, specifically. BUT you might be able to work something out with a tour or rental company.
Check out the links on the Tour Operators pages at links
Hertz for instance might be able to do something, they're expanding bike rentals into quite a few countries, starting in Spain a few years ago.
Good luck, and let us know what you find out to help others.

I suspect that because of customs regulations dealing with importation & taxes on vehicles, you won't be able to rent a vehicle in the EC (Slovenia, Croatia) and drop it off outside of the EC.
A better idea might be to find a business that rents motorcycles in Slovenia or Croatia, and then plan a circle tour that takes you back to where you picked up the bike. A circle tour would be just as interesting, I think, as a one-way tour to Turkey (I've done both, always on my own motorcycle).
When you are making your inquiries, be sure to ask what countries are covered on the insurance of the motorcycle - otherwise, you might wind up needing to by insurance coverage at the border of each former Yugoslavian country, as well as one EC country.

Hi C,
We can provide such rental service, either looping back to our headquarters in Zagreb, Croatia, or making it one way and doping the bike in Greece.
More info on our services:
Rentals
We are providing one stop shop service for such trips and can provide self guided trips as well, or just the mapping and routing.
Additional info over PM or even better email us directly:

Balkans
I too would like to tour the Balkans , when I can get out of the country safely.
I have just checked on the .GOV website and discovered that this is a Rabies high risk area.
What is the real risk of Rabies.
This is something I am very concerned about, as many many years ago I saw a man in India with the later stages of rabies, I will not go into details, but suffice to safe its horrendous and had a lasting effect on me.

I'd be more concerned about C-19, as Slovenia is categorised as a high risk area. When entering SLO you either need a vaccination (2x) certificate or a recent Covid test.

Real risk of getting rabies here is close to 0.
Never heard of any fresh cases ever here for that matter. There were two cases in last 30 years, 1989 and 1995.
If you need more info how to spend time in these areas, how to buy a bike, rent a bike, where to ride and all other important stuff just let me know over private message or info@lobagola-mototours.com

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
