Norway help please!

Hi all,

I'm headed to Norway and will get the rostock boat in a couple of days, initially landing in sweden, my problem is finding an address where I can get a replacement air pad delivered...does anyone live on the route or know anyone who would be kind enough To accept delivery of the mattress?

I also need tyres (Bridgestone), any idéas how I can order online in advance? My tyres will get me up To northern Norway so no urgency, I'd like to arrange it as soon as possible though.

Thanks in advance brethren.

I cant help you with a delivery adress in the south of S since I am living in Stockholm. But why not buying it in Sweden? It might be a bit more expensive, but isn’t this easier? In most major cities you will find Naturkompaniet. Check their webpage naturkompaniet.se and you can see what is available in each shop.

If you can make it back to Germany or across to Finland when you get to the top. Tyres are much cheaper as they are in the Euro. I had the same problem last year and the quotes I was getting for rubber were ridiculous and I’m Scandinavian but now live in the U.K. Just watch your speed in Norway. 80Kph most roads and this time of year they are hot!!

1) Book a hostel somewhere on your route.
2) Email the hostel and ask about having a package delivered there.
3) Send the package to the hostel address - it will wait for you.

Note on northern Norway: cargo post delivery there is a bit slow. With smaller villages, stuff comes in via cargobus (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...et_Nydalen.jpg), once or twice a week. It may be worth buying tires on the way. (Many gas stations up there are equipped to mount motorcycle tires.)

Thanks for your suggestion and replies, I've arranged delivery To a PO box in Tromso. Yep tyres and just about everything else and very extensive here...i'll eke them out until Finland. The speed limite suis me well as the country is exceptionally beautiful and I don't want to miss anything! Plus I'm on a 25 thousand kilomètre trip and the fuel economy over that distance at lower speed is signifiant.

Happy travels brethren!

1) If you're thinking northern Finland, it's as empty as northern Norway. Civilization with its supply chains basically ends at Oulu/Kemi in the west and Rovaniemi in the east.

2) Be very careful of your tires. (Speaking as somebody who had to buy a new rear tire in Arctic Norway not once, but twice!) Not only do the last layers of rubber wear out much faster than the rest, but up north, the asphalt is particularly abrasive. You absolutely can go from some visible tread to seeing metal in a single tank of gas. Plus, the less tread/rubber left, the easier it is for you to get a puncture. A sharp rock that would just punch into rubber, now cuts through the tire directly.

So, yknow... maybe get tires in Germany or Sweden while you can.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
