Touring in Scandinavia
Just heard there has been a fatal collision, on the main E6, between an elk and a foreign rider in Troms district. The elk died too, so the group were probably travelling quite fast.
Please be aware of the possibility for animals on the road, both wild and domestic. The recieved wisdom is to try to drive behind the animal, they usually run foreward rather than turn - except the deer I just missed two weeks ago, he turned.
Look for wildlife warning signs, narrow areas of woodland leading across the road, and brake/skid marks on the road. These are creatures of habit, and our roads are a relativly new concept to them. Sheep and cattle seem to like roads just to hang-out, be carefull, they can jump up in panic right in front of you, and try to cross.
Also mention that Statoil, with their coffee cup, now have Circle K name on some of their petrolstations. I'm sure they must have a good reason for this as it must have cost millions.
Safe travels

A cruise could take you from Stockholm to either Helsinki or Tallinn in two days (leave early evening, return on the afternoon after two days, one whole day at the destination). Tallinn is much more interesting from a historic point of view, lovely old buildings and a well preserved town wall with fairytale towers.
I would recommend staying in the capitals and if you have time make excursions to smaller towns. The top area for scenery in these countries is probably Norway's west coast between Bergen and Ålesund. There are tours for that I think (Norway in a nutshell?). Another great area is the Stockholm archipelago but you'll catch much of that if you take a cruise as suggested above.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
