Hi Andy and Karen,
are you likely to be passing our way in the near future ?
If so, look in.
As for places to stay in Istanbul, the area of Sultanhamet is probably the best to find accomodation, and is central to all the places to visit.
Regards,
Martin

Camping Istanbul

Martin,

Is Sakar Hills camping anywhere near Istanbul. Myself and a friend are travelling to Istanbul in Jul and are looking for a camping site for 1-2 nights.

It's just along the road, a bit, in Bulgaria, as per this thread:-
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...istanbul-46370

There is another thread somewhere in here about camping in Istanbul - probably in this forum for Europe; that discusses a camping site on the foreshore on the sea of Mamara, but from memory it is for only camper vans - I could be wrong - memory is a strange thing!

Anyway, I would recommend that you treat yourself to a hotel for a night or two if you are just passing through; IST has a pop of 14m so there won't be many camping places near the centre and that is the bit you want to see and experience - the rest is a spralling metropolis, as I say of 14m folks.
Sultanamet is definitely the place to be for a first visit; I did a week based there last year.

If you pay cash in Euro instead of TR Lira you will get a discount of at least 10% from the bill.

In 2008 I stayed at a campground in Kilyos, which is about 30km north of Istanbul and a few metres from the Black Sea. It was great swimming there in the hot summer weather. Buses run into the city at regular intervals so I didn't have to worry about the maniac traffic when going sightseeing either

Istanbul Bike Club

We're in Istanbul at the moment and we are staying in an apartment above the Istanbul Bike Club premises. Our bikes are parked safely in their club house.

The hospitality we have received from them since arriving is incredible. I would strongly recommend that anyone travelling through (or near) Istanbul make contact and visit them. Mehmet spent yesterday guiding us in the city and is a wealth of historical knowledge.

You can find them on here and on facebook.

Hiya
Yes, with Dazzer and Leigh. They really are a great bunch of guys. Think we're all leaving tomorrow though but today is the Club presidents birthday and there's a party tonight and it would be rude for us not to share in the fun

Do you think anyone will be in a fit state to go anywhere tomorrow after the party?

I will know if Dazzer has moved anywhere tomorrow by his 'spot-tracker'!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
