Mike Anderson.
Mike Anderson,a true traveler has passed away..
Andy and I met Mike in 2008 in Mazatlan in Mexico. He had announced on the HUBB that he would stay there to celebrate New Years Eve and invited other travelers to come as well, so we did. I expected an young BMW rider from Scotland, speaking with a brought Scottish accent, which would remember us of home. We were so surprised to meet a well traveled, very strong willed Kiwi, who could speak Spanish and walked with a stick. I was only right about the BMW.. He was back in Mexico to visit the people in the hospital who had helped him after a big bike accident.
Through the years we would visit each other or the mini Highland meets now and then and talk about many things. Last year he did a presentation at Donington Park and enjoyed the event very much.Mike was very well traveled; he had been to the America's, Africa and had just been back from a long trip in the far East. He was already planning his next trip. Last Sunday he would visit us, but never turned up. We can't get our head around the fact that we won't see him again, but we will remember him very much as a great example of traveling at an older age. Lots of will power there. He was almost 70 and not ready to start 'staring at a geranium'. Rest in Peace Mike, with respect, Andy and Maya Berwick.

Thanks Chris, that's nice of you.
I want to say that Mike or Michael Anderson was also know on the HUBB name as MAJA and his location was st. Andrews and Anstruther, Scotland.
He visited several HU meetings around the world and also did presentations be. last year at Donnington park which was called;' To go or not to go'.
Mike has not much family, his sister asked me to put this information on the HUBB.
If you have met Mike, you will remember his character!
Andy and Maya Berwick.

He was down to do a talk this year too: About his journeys around SE Asia. I've informed Iain Harper who is i/c the schedule.
We should drink a (several...) (s) in his memory!

Sad news
I met Mike in Mexico. He wanted to stay in the city for an extended period of time. I offered my place but he didn't want to be a burden.
I found him a hotel downtown .
We had breakfast together and I throughly enjoyed his stories of travels to exotic places.

Very sad to hear, Mike was always a positive guy, and up for a challenge. I first met him at an HU Meeting in Mexico, where we went on a ride that ended up MUCH more challenging than expected - but he soldiered on and made it through. He'll be missed.

Sorry to hear this sad news. We had the pleasure of being in Mike's company on several occasions. We camped next to him at our very first Horizons (Ripley) meeting and were encouraged by his stories and adventures.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

So sorry to hear this. I remember him well from Ripley a couple of years ago when I spent quite a bit of time with him. RIP

Oh man, such sad news, I haven't been on HUBB for a while and only just spotted this..
I first met Mike at HU Ripley before my big trip back in 2006, then in Argentina at La Posta, which was the same trip that saw him have his 'off' in Mexico and end up in hospital. When he was told he couldn't ride a bike for a while, he bought a camper van and went off to Europe When I got back to Scotland after my trip, I'd catch up with him in St Andrews for a few drinks and sharing of travel stories in between his annual 10 month long bike trips...
I last saw him at the end of April for the second time this year in Kuala Lumpur at the end of his SE Asia trip where he had just sold the small bike he'd bought for the trip rather than shipping his GS. He wanted to get home back to Scotland to vote in the Referendum. As per our usual meet ups, it involved many a travel story and Mike putting my drinking capabilities to shame
RIP Mike, an inspiration to anyone planning a 'quiet' retirement

I first met Mike in a riders' convocation at a pub in Vancouver. Next met up with him in Chiapas, then failed to hold up my share in various dives and cantinas across a swath of Guatemala. The following year: Colombia, for as long as my liver could handle. Couple years later we crossed paths again in Cuba, where I (again) failed to do my share of the drinking. Sense a theme here? The man had stories to tell and an inexhaustible thirst.
RIP Mike.

Pretty sure I met Mike (briefly) near the Sani Pass in early 2011. He'd ridden his BMW down from North Africa. Walked with a stick? Friendly guy and I only spent an hour in his company.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
