Extension from 3months to 6 months
Hi, I'm in Morocco. Can someone explain what the process is to extend the stay for myself and vehicle to 6 months? How soon can I do it? And if it can be done in any small town? Thanks.

Never done it, but for the vehicle, go to the customs office and ask. Doubt a small town has a such an office, but as the other thread says, you may be able to leave it in the town.
For yourself, you have to do the fly-out-and-back trick to refresh your visa, but there is a limit to how much time you can spend in Mk per year; 3 or 6 months, something lie that.

I knew there was a 6 month limit for the vehicle, that's no problem, five months is long enough. But I heard that we enter with permission for 3 months and have to do something to get that extended to 6 months.

Sorry just seen this; yes it is possible, as stated vehicle is 6mths. To extend your visa, visit a police station in a major city (my mate extended his in Casa), they wanted to see all his documents, and he had to prove he had enough money to sustain his extension.

Though I understand not all cities can do this, and no sorry don't know which ones. Depends where you are of course, but if in Marrakech, visit the police on the main square and ask.

We have our extension. 3 months from date of application and the process took 2 weeks. There is a lot of misleading information on the web.

My understanding is that every police station can do it. Ours was done in Biourga near Agadir. Rules very from station to station even in the same area. The process took 2 weeks and was organised by our campsite for a small fee.

The police needed: 3 certified copies of our passports, 6 passport photos each ( some require 8). Proof that we have financial means to pay, in our case a single credit card between us was sufficient. A one page form, copied and signed 3 times. A local address is required.

You need to allow time for the police to provide the certificate, 2 weeks for us, and you need to be staying somewhere long enough for them to be willing to provide a letter confirming your address.

It is free. So definitely cheaper than leaving the country. But it is not a three month extension of the passport stamp, it is 3 months from the date the police give (date of application in our case).

Warning: Although the visa extension was easier than reports on the web, extending our vehicle insurance was not.

There are assurance offices in most large towns, but they will only do Moroccan registered vehicles. That includes AXA. The frontiers insurance seems to be a monopoly with CAT Compangie D'assurance Transport based in Cassablanca. They have relatively few agents and you have to visit the agencies in person to get a new assurance certificate.

It cost us 1952 D for 3 more months (the same as at the border).

Confirmation from me on that was well, I've done it 3 times, albeit in the 2000's rather than recently. If the local police can't do it locally then its posted off etc.
Sidi Ifni used to be a good place to do it in, stay at campsite, organise it, go and explore the local area for a week, come back, approved. Get the phone number of the police involved and a photocopy of your passport stamped by them etc if your going to drive around a bit...

You also have to be careful if u intend to revisit the country in the same calender year, as the total is cumulative. Obviously not a problem if its a few weeks but any longer and u may have to get the calculator out

I got no hint that a personal extension was cumulative. There was nothing in the passport, just a separate piece of paper. The duration for the vehicle is quite different.
