android tablet GPS

I just bought a Galaxy table and use it as a gps on my tank bag , the google maps loaded on it work really well and if I can download some of other country I will use it as a back up GPS / maps , a bigger screen is usefull while looking at maps and I like the idea to be able to work at the hotel with a better screen. Now the question is what kind of map does this gps use on a droid system...

Technology is making our life easy.

I use OSMand (Open Street Map for Android) on my cell phone.

Not sure if it works for turn by turn navigation, but makes a great moving map display.

it works well for turn by turn. It's pretty accurate although it does suffer sometimes when you go off the track it planned for you and will ask you to make u-turns etc. I think this is fairly normal for GPS though.

Nice typo Hendi!!!! would love a picture of the table on the bike....!!!!! sorry Hendi- hard to resist!
I was looking at this to use with my Montana (mostly in the 4x4 but it works on the bike too!)
so I went with some RAM mounts and a 10" tablet but running windows 7 Ultimate.
Mapsource, Basecamp and NRoute all working beautifully.
My only wee gripe is battery life at 2 hours on full use is poor but then the table has a 1.6GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 320GB hard disk -
Total job inc. mounts sorted for under £180 - tablet found on ebay.
the 4" display on the Montana is great but a 10" next to it spoils you for life!

p.s info for anyone doing this
If using the Montana and NRoute, your tablet or pc will take the gps data from the Montana BUT the maps will need be installed on the tablet/ notebook.
Both devices will run independant navigation of each other. I find this quite useful.
When using Basecamp for planning (not navigating as it won't) then Basecamp will read maps on the Montana.

A USB Numeric Keypad is very useful with a windows (not sure about Android) tablet, zoom in and out with the + and - key without taking your eyes off the road and scroll the map around with the up, down and side to side buttons.

The map that I use every day is Waze because include traffic information. And works perfect on Android.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
