OSM maps for China??

I've been trying to download maps for China on my Garmin Montana 610, with no success. I tried alternativalibres, which worked very well for Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand. BUT the first time I tried the China map, it transferred onto mapsource and I could see it, but it wouldn't transfer to the GPS unit (some error message). So uninstalled and tried to reinstall, but the then the Norton AntiVirus refuses to download it to the computer at all, not even as far as Basecamp (citing dangers to the computer). Any ideas as to where I can get an OSM map for China? I considered buying Garmin's own (for £71!!), BUT, it is not compatible with a Montana 610. Any leads/ideas gratefully received.
Cheers all.

In the recent past I've successfully used https://garmin.bbbike.org/

Not for China, but both a user defined region in Europe and South East Asia were downloadable. I then copied the map file from my Windows PC onto the memory card of my (ancient) Garmin 60csx. Turn by turn navigation and microscopic detail.

Thanks Chris, but that doesn't appear to work either. Just getting a message saying the file is corrupted. Any more ideas?
Thanks.

From what you're describing it sounds like your computer that you're downloading to and connecting to your Garmin is the problem. Or your antivirus software.

Consider fully disabling/ uninstalling your antivirus software while you download from the internet and upload to your Garmin. Afterwards re-enable/ reinstall the antivirus s/w.

I've had similar issues on one of my computers (home desktop on W7) where I've got all sorts of anti-advert/ pop up blockers working, and my Mapsource has a hissy fit. I just use a different computer (travel laptop also running W7) to do my mapping work that doesn't have this anti garbage s/w running on it.

Also there are multitude of different map formats to create the map on the bbbike website. Have you downloaded the correct format for your particular Garmin device?

The best site I've found for downloads is this one: https://garmin3.bbbike.org/

If the map you want is too large you'll have to break it down into areas and download each separately, then swap SD cards as you go.

For Montana 610 and up there is no need to swap memory cards.
Rename maps ( as I have above).
The 610, I believe, is an odd one out as it can use up to 64gb SD cards whereas more modern units like the 700 the limit is...32gb...go figure!
Max map tile limits are still the same.

Success!!
Much thanks to you all. Thank you, Toyark, for walking me through the process. Apologies for being so dumb! I used the alternativaslibres maps and they have installed perfectly now.

It's more a limitation of the download site that will only produce maps up to a certain size.
