Current info on Aswan ferry & Sudanese consulate?
Does anyone have any current information about the schedule of the ferry from Aswan to Sudan? And can we just show up, or do we need to make a reservation or get the tickets in Cairo already? We are driving from Switzerland to Namibia and plan to make it to Aswan in one to two weeks.
Also, does anyone have current information about the opening hours/days of the Sudanese consulate in Aswan, and how long it takes for non-Americans (Swiss/Dutch/Australian) to get a visa?
Many thanks in advance!

THere isn't anything you can do in Cairo though...everything is on the ground in Aswan. I have some contact phone numbers and info on where stuff is though. Just need to pull it up on google maps and shoot you links. I'll get it to you this evening via FB.

Did it a month ago.Ferry leaves on Sundays.best to book early as possible.I got on a week ahead but it was empty because of trouble. Our barge with vehicle left Monday but sometimes it leaves the Thursday before you.It helps as you don't have to wait 3 days in Sudan for it.
I used a fixer and can post his number if anyone needs, Sudan visa is easy in Aswan. Took us 2 hours if you have all papers ready.

Thanks for the info, we ended up using a fixer in Aswan as well. Unfortunately we didn't make the ferry anyway since we got arrested at the Libyan-Egyptian border and deported Now I'm trying to get the car from the border to Aswan or Mombasa so I can continue the trip...

Aswan and Wadi Halfa
Hi, These are the fixers I used.
In Aswan Kamal 0100 5322669 he was very helpful though not very chatty !He sorted the booking out and did visas etc. He knows Mazar ,see below, and will call him for you.
I stayed at Adam's House about 10 kms out of town .Very quiet and peaceful Contact Mahommed 012 244 21767 or ask Kamal to call.It is on T4A maps.
There is a nice flat in town on the Nile too.Contact Galal 0100 601 6422.He is also a fixer.
In Wadi Halfa use Mazar +249 1223 80740 or +249 9110 75226 email mazarhalfa@gmail.com He is very nice guy and knows the ropes backwards. He can help with most things for overlanders eg repairs, parts etc.
Hope it all goes well.

Location of Sudanese Consulate in Aswan
Hey! Does anyone know the current location of the Sudanese Consulate in Aswan?? I hear it moved at some point during the last year. Is this the current location, or the previous one? Thanks for you help!

Get visa for Sudan in Aswan Egypt and ticket for boat to Wadi Halfa - Sam Thomson World Cycle touring Photo Blog
Also what paperwork do we need to apply for the visa, in terms of how many passport photos and any other supporting documents? As we're going by bike, rather than overlanding in a vehicle, would the fixers be of any use to us? Can they in any way expediate the visa process from two days to say two hours, or get us a place on the ferry a mere day or two before departure, even if it's 'full' ?!
Thanks for your help!

Hello,
I will be arriving in port of Damietta mid february and then cross egypt towards the south. Tried to send you an E-Mail but it returned (mail error). Could you please provide a working e-mail-address? Thank you very much...
Some of the questions I have to you are maybe also interesting to other travellers and therefore will post them here:
1) I will be arriving with UN RoRo Ferry from Turkey but only the car can go on the ferry. Passengers need to fly. Do you know if I have to handle the vehicle keys to somebody else who will drive the vehicle on and off the UN RoRo ferry or can I do that by myself?
2) How long do you think it will take to get the vehicle out of the port and to clear everything?
Kr
