INFORMATION FOR TURKEY.
1-According to your citizenship, may be visa free for yourself.Otherwise you can buy it at any bordergate.
2-You can also buy insurance for your bike at the same bordergate, for minimum 3 months..Just tell that it is a bike, motosiklet. No carnet needed. You will be asked for it first at Iran bordergates.(3 between Turkey and Iran)
Thats all to enter Turkey..
Route planning is important as you will meet the most expensive gas (Benzin)
here..
And hope you like çay, will be offered so many times during your visit...
All questions always welcome..
Best wishes

Hi Roro,
I will do it clockwise, Russia, Kasakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran (guess I need a carnet), Aserbajdsjan, Georgia and back to Russia. Will start the visa work next week, but it should be straight forward. I guess what you are reffering to is now history. Georgia and Russia has recently (last year or so) open up the military road going across Caukasus to Russia.

Do you even need to enter UZB? There is a coastal border between KAZ and Turkmenistan. I was going to look into this for when we are there in April/May? still not sure though!

Had a look and you are probably right G,
While I am crossing at Tajen heading for more dessert and the the south bend of the Aral Sea, you could take the coastal one, Temirbaba.
This is whats said about the coastal one (Kaskh - Turkm)
"Remote border crossing on the Zhanaozen-Turkmenbashi road. No public transport, only expensive taxis".

I was thinking of having a go at this border crossing once I establish the true cost of the 5 day transit visa. If the temp import of a 4x4 is too much I will likely not both and enter straight into UZB. Should be there around end of April
