current situation kyzyl art pass

Hi everyone,

we travel with two motorbike along the silk road (Willkommen!) and would like to enter tajikistan in the next week.

After 4 weeks in tajikistan our plan was to enter Kirgistan via Kyzyl Art Pass. Did anyone pass the pass in the last days/weeks who can reliable tell us whether it is open or not?

Thanks!
Thomas

Yes, fully open, no snow.

Tajik side took a little time as they wanted some vehicle registration card (given by the transport police) which we never had (or heard anyone else having!). This is not the same document/cert as the 15day temp import. They wanted $25 but we waited it out and they let us go. Its then a long long drive down the pass to the flatlands of Kyrgyzstan where we got through in 15 minutes.

Fuel available in Sary Tash.

There is an ATM in Golche but it wouldn't accept our Visa card. might have been a fault? There is also a small hotel there if you didn't want to go to Osh.

We tried to take a remote road from Osh up to Naryn but couldn't find a way through. We tried the furthest east road on the Reisse map but it does not seem to exist even after speaking to locals (in basic Russian). The road to/via Kaserman from Jalal abad may be an option but we didn't have time to check it out

It is open. I took it.

In Jalal abad there were protests when I was there. I rode through like I owned the place. Don't think you could do that with a truck though

Thumbs down Today

I took this at lunchtime today atop the Kyzyl Art Pass. The snow turned to sleet then freezing rain and finally regular rain...all the way to Osh!

Nice picture. We rode the pass probably right after you. We were at 1pm at the Tadjik Border with our 3 old Yamaha XT Teneres and met in Osh at the same Hotel.
Take care

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
