Getting a Carnet in China
Looks like we have run into a problem. We live in China and are trying to find an auto club that can issue a Carnet for our trip. The local auto club listed in the AIT country list doesn't seem to know anything about Carnets. If anyone has any information on how, where or who we can contact, it would be a great help.
Thanx
Jack

Hi
I live in Russia and have a same problem. The russian auto club listed in the AIT country list doesn't know anything about Carnets too. You should address to european or american auto clubs. But their rules will not seem easy.

No, not impossible - just expensive. You need to pay for an escort - US$100 per day approximately. Do a search on the HUBB and you'll find all the details you need.

one question: which countries are you planning to travel to? A carnet is not required for every country - only those that choose to participate in the ATA system. I travelled thru Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgryzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey and Greece and only needed a carnet for Iran and Turkey.

Turkey is one of the countries but I have heard that Turkey doesn't always require a Carnet.
I really do appreciate all the help, thanx everyone.

I got my carnet
I was lucky. ADAC in Germany first refused to issue a carnet when asked by a friend in Germany who called them. However, when I contacted them via e-mail, they contacted their insurance company, the insurance company said they would insure and within day the carnet was sent to me here in China.
Less than three weeks and we are on the road.

Hi Seb
:)
--
2 ways:
1. Call in the Yours embassy in Iran, and let they will send a fax on border.
Sense of a fax:
we ( embassy )know this guy, he goes THROUGH Iran, his passport is genuine,
And We'll vouch for that boy; he has promised to be good.
2. If the first for some reason has not left
On border sit a insurers .
They will write out to you a permit-the big not clear paper in size more A4
with seales. Will ask 150 dollars. Haggle with him,
it does not cost more than 80:)
Yes, 80 is for 10 days.
But when I leaved Pakistan in a the MONTH, it isn't a problem ,
They not so like to read:)
I drave through Ashkhabad (TURKMENIA)
Also leaved through Taftan (PAKISTAN)
Good luck!
