Bosnia / Balkans
Hi all,
I am shortly to set off on a ride from the UK towards Romania & the Balkans. The planned route is across the Netherlands and Germany, into the Czech Republic and southern Poland (Krakow region) before turning south through Slovakia & Hungary and into Romania. This part of my route is pretty much planned. I set off tomorrow! From Romania I may ride into Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania & Montenegro (depending on time constraints). My question to everyone is as follows: I will be meeting up with my wife in Dubrovnik, Croatia and we will be travelling together up to Belgrade, Serbia. The most direct route would take us through Bosnia, but after the recent floods I have no idea what the roads will be like (if they are even open?). I would be grateful for any advice / information from anyone who has travelled through this region recently or who lives there - I understand that parts of Serbia were badly affected too. Thank you for your insights.
Rob
PS If anyone is going to be in those areas in the next month, it would be great to meet up for a or a ride!

Thank you Dave. It looks like the roads are open but progress may be slow... The alternative route would be via Montenegro, but I understand this is also slow... I'll let you know how I get on, I'll be there over a month before you.

I am off in 2 weeks, 4th time to the Balkans in 4 years. Some roads are good, some not so, and some you wish never to see again.
First time I went to Romania I thought I was transferred to a different universe, then last year I went to Ukraine, and now Romania is just another country... not too bad, and you get used to it.
Only thing, check up on the road situation in Bosnia, Western Serbia, there are still road closures from the rain a few weeks back.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
